Donna Scott Receives Award Donna Scott, president of OSA, secretary (and former president) of the Women Sailors' Association, former Commodore of MCC (twice), was awarded the Janet Willings Memorial Award at the Women Sailor's Association (WSA) Annual General Meeting, on February 23, 2009. Janet Willings was an active volunteer who chaired many committees for Ontario Sailing, the CYA , the Lake Yacht Racing Association and the National Yacht Club as well as spent several years on the Board for CORK. She used her positions to lobby hard on behalf of youth and women and did more to support the place of women in the sport of sailing than any other person. When Janet lost her battle with cancer in 1988 the WSA commissioned a trophy in her honour to acknowledge her enormous contribution to furthering the place of women in sailing. The Deed of Gift requires that the trophy be awarded only to women who reflect her interest and dedication. This year's recipient embodies this requirement. Donna Scott is the current President of Ontario Sailing and is the first woman to hold this distinction. She has been actively involved with the WSA since 1990 and has served on the Board in various positions over the years including 2 years as Secretary, 3 years as the President and several years as the Treasurer which is a position she still holds today. Donna has volunteered for many years with the Yachtsmen's Spring Thaw Luncheon, drawing their attention to females active in the sailing world when they are considering their annual awards. She has also twice served as the Commodore at Mimico Cruising Club. Donna represents the best in women sailors as her position takes her throughout the province and is a most worthy recipient of the Janet Willings Memorial Award. Home page... |
